"BJP" - Gaddi Chhoro Andolan, Lucknow, UP

In the leadership of IYC President Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala, Indian Youth Congress organized a massive "BJP" - GADDI CHHORO ANDOLAN on 18th October 2000 at Lucknow seeking implementation of a 40-point charter of demands exposing BJP's misrule and mis-governance.

Thousands of enthusiastic youth activities had converged at Lucknow from every district. Besides IYC President, Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala, rally was addressed by senior Congress Leaders Shri Arjun Singh, Smt. Mohsina Kidwai, Shri Pramod Tewari, CLP Leader, Shri Satpal Maharaj, Shri Jagdambika Pal and many state leaders, MLCs, MLAs. They exhorted to wage a war against the anti - people policies of BJP and Sangh Parivar.

Guided by their political BJP masters, Uttar Pradesh police brutally lathicharged the peaceful Youth Congress activists. Hundreds were injured including some severely. Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala along with over 10,000 youth activists including State Youth Congress President were arrested and detained in police lines, Lucknow. They were released late in the evening.

Fascism of Uttar Pradesh Government and persist attempts to curb Youth Congress activists has made Youth Congress and other friends even more determined to take on and fight persistently against the forces and stand for the values professed by Hon'ble Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi.
