‘Citizen’s Meeting’ of enlightened citizens at Housing Board Colony, Sonepat
Haryana has seen unprecedented spurt in violence in recent months. Dare-devil shoot out in Rohtak Judicial Complex as part of a gang war fare, day light killings/attacks on prominent traders in Kaithal, Jind and Sonepat and recent broad daylight killing of a senior journalist at his residence (with killers naming the Chief Minister as the man behind the murder as per the eyewitness son of the deceased) has only added to this fear physcosis. Police machinery is either in collusion or finds itself rudderless with overt political patronage that is enjoyed by the criminals. Cities and small towns of Haryana have essentially borne the burnt of this victimization.
With a view to highlight this malady, we organized a ‘Citizen’s Meeting’ of enlightened citizens at Housing Board Colony, Sonepat on 3rd October, 2003. What is heartening to note is that a number of welfare associates, prominent traders, professors, doctors, teachers, engineers, religious heads of local institutions etc. turned up to share the view and to jointly initiate a people’s movement under the Congress flag.
Besides the IYC President, Sh. Randeep Singh Surjewala, Sh. O.P. Jindal, M.L.A; Sh. Ramesh Kaushik, former minister and a number of prominent citizens addressed the meeting.
