Gherao of Assembly at Ranchi, Jharkhand

To highlight the all round failure of Marandi led BJP Govt. as also to wage a struggle against the corrupt NDA govt. Youth Congress organized a 'Gherao' of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on 19th December, 2001.

We particularly pointed out that Marandi Govt. has become a den of corruption, incompetence and inefficiency as also that there is all round administrative and political failure to utilize crores of rupees received for economic development, check insurgency and prevent atrocities on Scheduled Tribes. State govt. has been admonished 12 times in last 12 months by the High Court for its failure to protect the rule of law thereby justifying our demand for dismissal of the state government.

A few thousand youth volunteers had gathered outside the assembly premises. Besides Sh. Randeep Singh Surjewala IYC President and PYC Chief, Shri Mahavir Prasad, General Secretary, AICC in-charge of Jharkhand, Shri Subodh Kant Sahay and Smt. Sudha Joshi, Secretaries, AICC, CLP leader, Legislators and other Office Bearers attended and addressed the gathering.

Police resorted to unprovoked lathi charge, firing of plastic bullets and tear gas shells. 9 Youth Congress office bearers were seriously injured and criminal cases registered against our boys under sections 307/143/148/149/337/323/353/118/506/492/341/114 I.P.C.
