'Jal Vitran' (Water Distribution) Programme For Drought Effected Areas of Rajasthan.
April - May 2000 saw one of the worst droughts of the century in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Arid regions saw an acute scarcity of even drinking water. Hon'ble Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi called upon youth activists to under take a relief programme.
Accordingly, IYC President, Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala requested Hon'ble Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, flagged off 10 water tankers of Indian Youth Congress deployed in 4 draught effected districts of Rajasthan on 30th May, 2000 from New Delhi. Youth Congress volunteers supplied over 50 Lakh liters of water for over a period of 30 days in Rajasthan.
Hon'ble Congress President, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, flagged off another 8 water tankers of Indian Youth Congress from Jamnagar, Gujarat on 31st May, 2000. These tankers were deployed in Jamnagar, Porbandor, and Surinder Nagar uptill 15th June, 2000 and supplied over 15 Lakh liters of water.
