‘Manav Mythri Sangramam’ at Kozhikode, Kerala
Fundamentalism has acquired a new dimension with the BJP-VHP-Bajrang Dal making an all out bid to spread their tentacles to hitherto unknown areas of southern India. A diabolical competitiveness seems to exist between Muslim and Hindu fundamentalist outfits in their insatiable quest to prove themselves to be more communal or a bigger savior.
Onus lies on us – Indian National Congress – to protect and preserve out ethos, ideas and ideology as a Nation. To quote Hon’ble Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi from her address to the Shimla Vichar Manthan Shivir (7th July, 2003), “For the Congress, secularism is an article of faith and to defend it, we will firmly combat the misuse of any religion for purposes of dividing our society.”
With this view, we, at Youth Congress, held a massive public meeting titled as ‘MANAV MYTHRI SANGRAMAM’ at Kozhikode, Kerala on 14th August, 2003. Over 10,000 Youth read out and signed with blood an oath form vowing to defend the secular fabric as also to purge all extremist elements conspiring to disturb social peace and harmony.
Besides theIYC President, Sh. Randeep Singh Surjewala and PYC Chief; Sh. Ramesh Chennithala, Secretary of AICC; Sh. K. Murilidharan, PCC Chief and a number of legislators addressed the meeting and participated in the oath ceremony.
