There are a lot of people who have placed them at the next level through their dedicated serve for the country. In a country where politics is the most discussed and debated phenomena, Shamsher Singh Surjewala seems to be a household name. He has been elected six times from Kaithal Constituency of Haryana. He was elected from this constituency as an MLA five times and once as an MP. This shows the popularity of the person. Under the leadership of Mr. Surjewala, Kaithal has improved by leaps and bounds over the years. From electricity to drinking water, education to health care, every sector has been given equal importance.
A large amount of fund has been invested for the betterment of the sewage system and drinking water availability. Education has always been the top priority of Mr. Surjewala. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Govt. college is nearing its completion whose work had started during his tenure. In the field of Healthcare, a number of hospitals and health centers have been established. The most notable among them is the Indira Gandhi multi-specialty hospital in Kaithal. An ultra-modern 16 bay bus stand has been inaugurated in 2008 in his tenure. Irrigation problem of the Kaithal Constituency, which seems to be a herculean task, has been solved to a large extent by his efforts. The Shergarh-Guhna link channel is a historical milestone in this sector. This channel carries as much as 60 cusecs of water for the purpose of irrigation. A number of other channels have been made and a few others have also been extended. Mr. Surjewala was most concerned about the rural development and rural infrastructure of his constituency. He believed that the heart of a country lies in its rural areas.
Mr. Surjewala had dreamt of NIILM University. It was a five decade old demand of the people of Kaithal. Finally, in 2006, the government permitted the ‘NIILM Education Trust’ to establish the university. The foundation stone of the university was laid by Mr. Surjewala in 2010 and the university has started its academic operations from the academic year 2012-13.Mr. Shamsher Singh Surjewala reached 80 years of age on 24th March, 2013. He had a lot of dreams for his constituency. He converted some into reality and a few others are yet to be done. His able son, Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala has got into his shoes and working hard to carry on the legacy of development and goodwill.
