100 Wheat Truckloads Sent To Rajasthan As Drought Relief.
In the historic Block and District Presidents Conference held New Delhi on 28th - 29th March, 2003; Hon'ble Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi had called upon all congressmen to rise to serve - the needy, the poor, the destitute. In our own humble way, I had promised that Youth Congress will collect "One Million kilograms" of wheat for the drought affected areas of Rajasthan facing nature's fury and malicious discrimination at the hands of central government for last 4 years.
Hon'ble Congress President was kind enough to flag off 100 truck loads of wheat (weighing 9,00,000 Kilograms) on 27th May, 2003 - 39th Death Anniversary of National Icon - campaign touching almost 1,00,000 households in the neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana.
In the meanwhile, we have further collected another 4,50,000 kilograms of wheat to be sent as second installment.
IYC President, Mr. Randeep Singh Surjewala took the opportunity to humbly say that inspiration of Smt. Sonia Gandhi has inspired a whole new generation of young party cadre to undertake social service projects with a rare dedication and vigor. Even on last 21st May and 27th May, 2002; Indian Youth Congress had sent another 9,00,000 Kilograms of wheat in 100 truck loads for the riot-effected areas of Gujarat and border displaced persons of Jammu flagged off by Hon'ble Congress President. IYC had similarly risen to the call of duty and had dispatched nearly 15,000 quintals of relief materials for earthquake torn Gujarat on 4th February 2001 and 151 truckloads of fodder on 21st May 2000.
