Youth Congress organized a huge Rally, Mustafabad, Distt. Yamunanagar, Haryana
In predominantly agriculture oriented Haryana, farmers have been at the receiving end of anti-farmer policies of Central and State government.
Particularly, in the ‘Sugarcane-Eucalytus-Popular tree’ yamunanagar-Kurukshetra belt of rural Haryana, unpaid arrears of sugarcane, caught in the artificial prism of ‘State Administered Price’ as against ‘Centrally Notified Minimum Price’, have shattered the net worth of virtually every small and medium farmer. To top it, Chautala government’s decision to levy tax on sale of wood and absence of any support price has ensured a rapid crash in price of Eucalytus and popular wood – even below the prices of 1995-96.
To expose this nexus of BJP – Lok Dal, Youth congress organized a huge Rally in interior rural belt of at Mustafabad, Distt. Yamunanagar, Haryana on 18th October, 2003. Although BSP and Lok Dal have a sizable presence in the area including holding the assembly seat, Rally was a huge draw with farmers, women, youth and dalits attending. Besides IYC President, Randeep Singh Surjewala and PYC Chief, a number of senior Congress leaders and former ministers addressed the rally.
