‘Yuva Kisan Sammelan’, Village Khadri, Haryana
Chachrauli Block in Distt. Yamunanagar is among the less developed, least visited and farthest corner of Haryana abutting Saharanpur belt in Uttar Pradesh. Village Khadri was the venue of our ‘Yuva Kisan Sammelan’ on 4th November, 2003.
Taking up local issues of farmers in this agriculturally rich belt, we pointed out that illegal mining contracts awarded by Lok Dal government has rendered the farming community at the mercy of ‘mining mafia’, where farmers have to pay royalty for lifting sand from his own land. Moreover, ‘Euclyptus’ and ‘Poplar’ trees – the principal crop of the area – has seen a sudden crash in prices owing to imposition of 4 % tax by government on small scale wood industries based at Yamunanagar and other restrictions imposed on trading and export of this wood. Prices of ‘Poplar’ tree has fallen from Rs.550 per quintal during Congress regime in 1996 to Rs. 130 per quintal now and that of ‘Eucylptus’ tree has fallen from Rs. 250 per quintal in 1996 to Rs. 150 per quintal now.
Besides the IYC President, Sh. Randeep Singh Surjewala and PYC Chief, rally was addressed by other senior Congress leaders of the area.
