Indian Youth CongressState Specific Agitation

‘Yuva Kisan Sammelan’ at Bhind, Madhya Pradesh

In the run up to the elections, Bhartiya Janata Party has initiated a sinister campaign in Madhya Pradesh attacking the developmental record and state of agricultural economy in the state.

With a view to expose the classic BJP double speak, Youth Congress organized an impressive ‘Yuva Kisan Sammelan’ at Bhind, Madhya Pradesh on 27th August, 2003. Thousands converged to Bhind town to express solidarity with our campaign of ‘unveiling BJP’s game-plan of paralyzing agricultural economy’.

Presenting the facts, we pointed out that cost of all agricultural inputs, forming the core of agriculture, have skyrocketed manifold as against the systematic demolition of ‘Minimum Support Price Structure’ leaving the farmers to the vagaries of market forces. We particularly pointed out the discrimination – whether in grant of drought relief (non-release of calamity relief despite damage assessment of Rs.700 crores by committee of Central Government), non-allocation of increased share in power pursuant to redistribution of the state, prohibitive rates of power supplied by Central Government run NTPC, non-allocation of appropriate and quality quota of coal to the thermal stations of the State owing to redistribution of all natural resources to Chattisgarh during the carving of the new State.

Overwhelming response of the young farmers and common man as also their elated participation reaffirmed our faith in their capacity to pierce through the veil of false propaganda and seek the truth. Besides the IYC President, Sh. Randeep Singh Surjewala and PYC Chief, rally was addressed by Sh. Rakesh Singh, Minister; DCC President and a number of senior Congress leaders of the area.
